Aval Dosa
Certainly! Aval Dosa, also known as Poha Dosa, is a popular South Indian dish made from flattened rice (poha) and rice flour. It's a quick and easy recipe that requires minimal preparation.
Aval Dosa is a light and crispy dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Feel free to adjust the spiciness by adding more or fewer green chilies according to your preference. Here's how you can make it:
Ingredients:
π1 cup aval (flattened rice/poha)
π1 cup rice flour
π2 tablespoons semolina (rava)
π1/4 cup sour curd/yogurt
π1 small onion, finely chopped
π1 green chili, finely chopped
π2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
π1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
πA pinch of asafoetida (hing)
πSalt to taste
πWater as needed
πOil for cooking
Instructions:
⃠ Rinse the aval (flattened rice) under cold water and soak it in water for about 5 minutes. Then, drain the water completely and set aside.
⃠ In a mixing bowl, add soaked and drained aval, rice flour, semolina, sour curd, chopped onion, green chili, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well to form a thick batter.
⃠ Slowly add water to the batter while stirring continuously, until you achieve a smooth and pourable consistency. The batter should not be too thick or too thin.
⃠ Allow the batter to rest for 15-20 minutes. This helps the aval (flattened rice) to soften and blend well with the other ingredients.
Heat a non-stick dosa tawa or skillet on medium heat. Once hot, grease it with a little oil.
⃠ Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the center of the tawa and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin dosa.
⃠ Drizzle a few drops of oil around the edges of the dosa and a little bit on top.
⃠ Cook the dosa on medium heat until the edges turn golden brown and crispy. Flip it over and cook the other side for a minute or until it is cooked through.
⃠Flip the dosa and you can cook the other side if you want. Spread the oil which we had drizzle on top with a spoon. You can choose to cook just one side or both sides of the dosa.
⃠ Serve the Aval Dosa hot with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, sambar, or any chutney of your choice. Enjoyπ
